A court in Gujarat's Surendranagar district has issued an arrest warrant against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Hardik Patel for failing to appear before it in a 2017 case in which he is accused of violating a government order.

Days after Hardik Patel quitting the Congress, Gujarat party chief Jagdish Thakor has claimed that the he took the step as he was afraid that he might have to go to jail in sedition cases filed against him.

Hardik Patel and his two colleagues have been charged with sedition in a case related to a protest they had organised three years ago demanding reservation for Patel community allegedly turning violent.
