Railways Tableau

A group of Indian-origin South African nationals who attended the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi today were moved after seeing the Railway's tableau themed on the transformation of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma.

Trains have played a pivotal role in Mahatma Gandhi's political journey, from he being thrown out of it in South Africa in 1893, that sowed the seeds of the movement of non-violence, to him using the medium to traverse the length and breadth of the country during the freedom struggle.

After a gap of three years, the railways is all set to showcase its tableau in the Republic Day parade depicting the "transformation of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi" and highlight the yet-to-be-launched bullet train and Train 18, according to a statement from the ministry on Friday.

The Indian Railways will not be showcasing its projects or achievements at the Republic Day parade this year as its tableau has been rejected by an expert committee.
