A 16-year-old schoolboy was beaten to death allegedly by maoists in a village in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district apparently on suspicion he was a police informer, police said on Wednesday.

Puvarti, a Maoist-stronghold in Sukma district bordering Bijapur district, is the home village of dreaded Naxalite leader Hidma.

For the first time since Independence, the national flag was unfurled in Puvarti - a village in Chhattisgarh's Sukma where the Maoists once ran a parallel government.
