A jailer was injured after he was assaulted allegedly by some inmates of the Yerawada central prison in Pune, an official said.

A prisoner serving life imprisonment has escaped from the open jail of Yerawada Central Prison in Maharashtra's Pune city, police said on Tuesday.

The Debt Recovery Tribunal in Pune on Saturday directed fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, who is currently lodged in a London prison, and his aides to pay more than Rs 7,200 crore with interest to the defrauded Punjab National Bank.

Mohan Patil, a jailer, was allegedly shot at by two unidentified bike-borne assailants outside the Yerawada central prison today in Pune, police said.
