Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today expressed grief over the death of seven persons killed in flash floods at Virudhunagar district last week, and announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the victims.

The government is preparing to reissue or repromulgate its controversial ordinance on land reforms, said the Press Trust of India. The executive order, which is aimed at making it easier for businesses to acquire land from farmers, lapses on April 5.

Italian Ambassador to India, Daniele Mancini, has said he won't leave the country unless he is asked by a competent authority to do so. "I will not leave this country till a competent authority makes me a persona non grata," new agency Press Trust of India quoted Mr Mancini as saying.
