The number of unicorns -- companies worth over USD 1 billion -- in the country has declined for the first time in four years to 67, a report said on Tuesday.

Highlighting the role of talent, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India is a young nation with a great innovative spirit and that the number of unicorn startups has almost doubled since 2021.

Highlighting the transformational changes in science, technology and innovation in India, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday said India ranks third globally in the startup ecosystem and also in terms of the number of Unicorns.

Noting that the number of unicorns in India has reached the 100-mark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that even during the Covid pandemic, India's start-ups continued to create wealth and value.

The Prime Minister was speaking on the debate over the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha in the ongoing Budget Session of the Parliament.

Overseas funds put more than $35 billion (roughly Rs. 2,60,020 crore) into Indian startups in 2021 — a tripling from 2020 — buying into everything from fintech and health to gaming.
