Noida Police Order On Namaz

Days after a Noida park was declared out of bounds for religious activities, only a dozen people turned up there for the Friday namaz only to find parts of the ground waterlogged even as the police keeping a vigil.

Days after the Noida police told multinational companies in Sector- 58 to direct their employees not to offer Friday prayers in a community park, a video showing a group of right-wing activists bullying a few Muslims in the park has emerged as the likely cause of the much-criticised diktat.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday said that the order by the Noida police barring Muslims from offering namaz at a community park was "discriminatory and irresponsible," and was aimed at hiding the BJP government's failures ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Public spaces such as parks can't be used for religious activities, the Noida police have declared and told multinational companies in Sector-58 to direct their employees not to offer Friday prayers in a community park. The notice also warnsthe companies that they will be held liable for any violation by their employees.
