New Gas Deal Saves India Rs 20 Thousand Crores: PM Modi

India could save as much as Rs 20,000 crore after it renegotiated a long-term gas import deal with Qatar, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At present India buys 7.5 million tons a year of liquefied natural gas from Qatar every year. The price formula was fixed 13 years ago and its terms were out of sync with low global energy prices.

New Price Formula For Undeveloped Gas Finds Cleared By Union Cabinet

In a boost to firms like Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Reliance Industries, the Cabinet today approved a new price formula for their undeveloped gas discoveries in difficult areas, which will lead to a near-doubling of rates.

Gas prices: Supreme Court to hear petitions challenging formula approved by Cabinet

The Supreme Court will today hear two petitions challenging the hike in gas prices. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta and an NGO have petitioned against the gas pricing formula approved by a cabinet panel in June last year that has allowed gas prices to be hiked from $4.2 a unit to $8.4 from April.
