"Got Death Threat": Head Of Kerala Education Group That Banned Face Veils

The head of a Muslim education group in Kerala today said he got "death threats" for banning face veils on campuses. The Kozhikode-based Muslim Education Society (MES), which runs several educational institutions and is among the country's largest, had issued a circular urging its students not to attend classes wearing any face-covering attire.

18-year-olds starting at a Northern Kerala college will have to wear a uniform of a kurta, a churidaar and an overcoat instead of a dupatta, said officials at the women's college in the district of Kozhikode. Kerala is averaging about 27 degrees currently, the temperature can climb to 45 degrees during summers.
