Mumbai Milk Supply

Dairy farmers will continue to agitate, demanding hike in milk procurement prices until the Maharashtra government agrees, Swabhimani Paksha leader Raju Shetti, who is leading the protest said today.

Milk supply in Maharashtra was badly hit after thousands of farmers launched a protest on Monday, demanding better price and subsidy of Rs 5 per litre. Tankers supplying milk to major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and others were blocked early morning leading to sudden crisis.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetti warned on Saturday that milk supply to Mumbai would be stopped from July 16 if the Maharashtra government failed to provide subsidy to dairy farmers.

In yet another indication that Mumbai may be heading towards a 'milk crunch', the Aarey dairy has confirmed that the supply of toned milk fell to 1,20,000 litres on Gudi Padwa, instead of its daily 1,50,000 litres.
