Earlier this year, the TIME magazine included two Indian women lawyers - Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju - in its list of 100 most influential people of 2019. The two lawyers had led a long fight against Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, a controversial British-era law that banned consensual gay sex.

Petitioners, lawyers representing them and artists spoke to NDTV about how "honoured" they feel about being able to fight the case. "The judges were unequivocal and the persistence of the LGBT community resulted in this victory," said Maneka Guruswamy lawyer who fought against Section 377
