The Indian Ministry of Railways will collaborate with IIT Madras to develop an "indigenous" Hyperloop system, officials confirmed. Railway ministry will also help set-up a Centre of Excellence for Hyperloop Technologies at IIT Madras. The premier institute approached Ministry of Railways in March-2022 with a proposal for collaborative working.

MIT has shown this off in a proof of concept experience where a 60-gram model rover which is approximately the size of a person's hand.

China has introduced a maglev train, the fastest ground vehicle globally, that "levitates" above the track with no contact between body and rail.

MagLev trains are only used in China, Japan and South Korea and will likely see the light of day only in about a decade.
