Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad's last rites will be performed in his village Detdor in Dhadwaad today. He died at Delhi's RR Hospital yesterday, four days after he was discovered alive in what has been described as a miraculous rescue from Siachen.

Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, 33, died at 11.45 this morning at Delhi's RR Hospital, four days after he rescued from Siachen, where an avalanche on February 3 buried the Army post he was at.

When army rescuers found Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad six days after his fibre-reinforced hut was buried in ice by an avalanche, he was unconscious with a pulse so weak that it was barely detectable. But an army doctor, part of the rescue team at the Sonam post, at an altitude of 19,600 feet, managed to revive the soldier.
