Karbi Peace Accord

The Centre, along with the Assam government, today signed the Karbi Peace Accord, promising Rs 1,000 crore over five years for development of the tribe's native region. Over 1,000 former terrorists have surrendered in the run up to today's deal.

The BJP-led government in Assam and the centre are set to sign a Karbi Peace Accord today with at least six insurgent groups active within the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) region in New Delhi.

The Centre is set to sign a tripartite "Karbi Peace Accord" today and the agreement is expected to be signed in the presence of Amit Shah, Himanta Biswa Sarma and the representatives of Karbi outfits in Delhi, sources said.
