German engineering giant Siemens is planning to cut around 7,400 jobs - perhaps 3,300 in Germany - as part of an ongoing mass restructuring plan, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

Some 7,600 positions will be axed as part of a company overhaul announced by Kaeser on May 7 in which 16 divisions will be consolidated into nine and certain levels of hierarchy will be eliminated, the spokesman said.

CEO Joe Kaeser is eliminating the sprawling company's four broad sectors overseeing its businesses, and will trim those business divisions from 16 to nine. Each division will get a profit margin target as Siemens aims to focus on fields where it can grow and earn the most.

President Francois Hollande held talks with GE boss Jeff Immelt on Monday morning and was due to sit down later in the afternoon with Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser to discuss the fate of Alstom, the maker of the country's prestigious TGV high-speed trains and turbines for power plants.
