A major power breakdown amid extreme cold wave has pushed large parts of Jammu and Kashmir to the edge as thousands of employees of the Power Development Department have gone on indefinite strike.

Electricity generator NTPC Ltd will regulate power supply to Jammu and Kashmir after the state failed to pay dues over Rs 1,600 crore, the government-run company said in a statement today. Power supply will be scaled down or even snapped starting February 19, it said.
