Illegal Coal Mining Case Of West Bengal

A land parcel worth Rs 6 crore in Kolkata has been attached by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an illegal coal mining case in West Bengal, the central agency said on Saturday.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday said it has attached assets worth over Rs 165 crore of Anup Majhi, the alleged mastermind of an illegal coal mining case of West Bengal, under the anti-money laundering law.

Supreme Court has on Monday sought response of the central government within a week on a plea challenging the order of the Calcutta High Court that allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe a case pertaining to illegal mining and transportation of coal through Railways in West Bengal, without the state's consent.

A security official of Eastern Coalfield Ltd in West Bengal's Asansol suffered a heart attack during a search by the CBI in a case of illegal mining and theft. The official, Dhananjay Roy, was rushed to hospital, where he died. He was one of several people whose properties were raided by the CBI today in connection with the case.
