Chandigarh mayoral and municipal elections will be held next week - on January 30 - the Punjab and Haryana High Court said this afternoon, dismissing an order by the city's Deputy Commissioner that abruptly deferred the polls to next month.

The ruling BJP and JJP (Jannayak Janta Party) combine in Haryana has gained control over 25 of the 46 municipal bodies in the state for which elections were held recently.
