Dropping references to the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the killing of Muslims in Gujarat riots and Hindutva, and tweaking the reference to Manipur's merger with India are among the latest set of revisions made public by the NCERT.

As part of syllabus "rationalistion" exercise, the 2002 Gujarat riots and the Emergency imposed in 1975 is among the content that has been dropped from textbooks of classes 6-12.

For students of Classes 6 to 8, the scripture will be introduced in the textbook of 'Sarvangi Shikshan' (holistic education). From Classes 9 to 12, it will be introduced in the form of storytelling in the textbook of the first language.

The Congress on Saturday said the Gujarat government was celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of renowned poet Jhaverchand Meghani but had done nothing over school text books in the state getting his date of birth wrong.

According to GSHSEB, Class 10 students will have to study the same textbook and syllabus. Based on their interest and understanding of the subject, students will be able to opt for one of the papers at the time of filling up the Class 10th board exam forms.
