Uranium fuel fully loaded in Kudankulam, reactor safe, says expert

Even as anti-nuclear activists attempted to lay a siege on the atomic reactor at Kudankulam. India's nuclear energy utility, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) confirmed to NDTV that the first unit has been fully loaded with the requisite enriched uranium fuel and it is fully safe.

The Supreme Court has said that it will not hesitate in stopping the Kudankulam nuclear power plant if it finds that safety measures at the plant in Tamil Nadu are unsatisfactory. The court made these observations while hearing an appeal against the Madras High Court order that allowed fuel loading at the plant.

Kudankulam protest: 1500 villagers bury themselves in neck-deep sand

Villagers around the Kudankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu are intensifying their protests following the loading of nuclear fuel in the plant. Around 1500 protesters have remained buried in neck deep sand at Idinthakarai since 10 am today. They will end their protest at 4 pm today.
