India’s Tata Motors announced on Monday that its electric mobility unit has signed an agreement to potentially acquire Ford Motor's vehicle manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company signed an MoU with the government of Gujarat to acquire Ford plant in Sanand.

The Memorandum of Understanding ask for the complete takeover of Fords facilities including eligible employees from the Sanand plant.

Ford Motor Co said it had dropped plans to make electric vehicles (EVs) in India for exports, while it explores options for its two factories in the country that stopped production last year.

It's been seven months since Ford decided to shut its factories in India, taking a $2 billion charge for the retreat.

According to a report, the deal is in the final stages of acquisition, and the news will be officially announced by Tata Motors and Ford soon, once the Gujarat state government reviews the proposal for the sale.
