The draft Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2041 put in public domain by the DDA on Wednesday introduces vertical mixing, tradeable floor area ratio and green-blue factor for the future-ready capital of the country.

The DDA has proposed bringing uniform floor area ratio (FAR) for shop-cum-residence plots and complexes at par with residential plots, a move that will come as a big relief to traders facing threat of sealing, officials said today.

Paid parking at around 75 malls and hospitals falling in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) area has been banned following growing complaints of high fees being charged for use of these facilities.

The real estate industry on Wednesday hailed increase in floor area ratio (FAR) and ground coverage for plots in Delhi, saying the move would allow more built-up area on bigger land parcels, but felt that housing supply would not be boosted till height and density norms are eased.

Delhi-based realty stocks jumped sharply on Wednesday after the Urban Development Ministry approved higher ground coverage and floor area ratio in the capital city. FAR is the ratio of a building's total floor area as compared to the size of the land upon which it is built. Higher FAR would enable builders to construct more floors in the capital.
