Eu Envoy Kashmir Visit

Envoys of 22 countries today began their two-day visit to Jammu And Kashmir amid heightened security and a shutdown in several parts of the Valley. This is the fourth such visit since the Centre scrapped the former state's special constitutional position and divided it into two Union Territories.

A delegation of 24 ambassadors to India, including those from France, European Union and Malaysia, arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir for making an assessment of the situation post the scrapping of the erstwhile state's special status in 2019.

India has taken positive steps to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir but it is important to lift the remaining restrictions swiftly, the European Union said on Friday, following the latest visit by a group of foreign diplomats to the union territory under lockdown since August.

Countries from the European Union are not part of the foreign delegates' team visiting Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday at the government's invitation. The US ambassador is a part of the 16-member delegation.
