BJP candidate Ranoj Pegu retained Assam's Dhemaji assembly seat for his party, defeating his nearest Congress rival Babul Sonowal by 9,285 votes. Mr Pegu polled 75,217 votes and Mr Sonowal 65,932 votes, the Election Commission said.
