Mumbai Traffic Police issued a notification which makes it compulsory for pillion riders to wear a helmet when out on a two-wheeler. The rule comes in to force 15 days from now and offenders will be penalised as well.

Public Interest Litigations seeking revocation of the city government's notification to exempt sikh women from wearing helmet while driving or pillion riding two-wheelers were today rejected by the Delhi High Court which observed that it is not feasible to make headguard mandatory for them.

It is now mandatory for women travelling on two-wheelers, driving or riding pillion, to wear helmets in the national capital. The Delhi government issued a notification on Friday inviting objections and suggestions from public within 30 days.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking to make helmet wearing compulsory for pillion riders irrespective of their gender and religion, after the city government informed it that motor vehicle rules would be amended to make it compulsory for women to wear helmets.
