Twelve people killed in lightning in West Bengal

Twelve people were killed and six others were seriously injured after being struck by lightning in West Bengal's Burdwan and Malda districts on Sunday. Police say, while ten people were killed and six were injured in Burdwan, two died in Malda.

More infant deaths in Bengal's Malda hospital, toll now 20

Four more infants have died in the last 24 hours at the Malda Medical College in West Bengal, taking the number of infant deaths there to 20 in less than a week. The four deaths come just after an observer team of the state health department inspected the hospital.

At least fifty-seven people died after consuming spurious liquor in a West Bengal village on Wednesday, police said. Over a 100 others were admitted to hospitals in Kolkata and Diamond Harbour.
