The French resort of Cannes has banned full-body, head-covering swimsuits worn by some Muslim women from its beaches, citing security concerns.

As a result an "extraordinary mobilisation" of security forces has been put in place, with 400 private security agents guarding the Palais des Festivals alone, where the main films are shown. Cannes has 500 CCTV cameras, making it the most closely monitored town in France, said Mayor David Lisnard
