A boat held by Somali pirates has been freed after a gun battle, fishermen and witnesses said today, claiming several of the pirates were killed.

Seven years since a deadly attack on Mumbai in which three Indian fishermen went missing when Pakistani gunmen hijacked their boat, the families of the three have asked the government to declare the men dead and provide compensation.

Chinese authorities were on Sunday investigating claims that unidentified North Koreans hijacked a Chinese fishing boat, kidnapping 16 sailors and demanding a ransom, local media and an official said.
