Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) legislator PK Kunhalikutty has won the Malappuram by-poll in Kerala by 171,038 lakh votes. The IUML strongman remained far ahead of his nearest rival MB Faisal, Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate and youth leader. The BJP candidate N Sreeprakash came a distant third.

Even as most of the BJP-ruled states have supported tough laws against the cow slaughter, a party's candidate in Kerala's Mallapuram is promising voters good beef in his constituency if elected.
