Bhalswa Landfill Site Fire

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has imposeda fine of Rs 50 lakh on the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for being negligent and not taking proper steps to prevent the fire at the Bhalswa landfill, officials said on Thursday.

A massive fire broke out at the Bhalswa landfill site in north Delhi on Tuesday, officials said. The fire department received information about the blaze around 5.47 pm following which 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said.

Delhi's air quality today remained very poor even as the blaze at the Bhalswa landfill site continued to smoulder.

A fire that started at the sprawling Bhalswa garbage landfill site in the capital on Sunday night is yet to be brought under control, fire officials said.
