Bengal Nun Gangrape

The two prime accused in the gangrape of a septuagenarian nun at Ranaghat in Nadia district of West Bengal have been arrested by the CID from Sealdah station, a senior official of the investigating agency said in Kolkata on Friday.

The Bengal government's request for the country's premier investigating agency, the CBI, to handle the case of the elderly nun who was raped at the convent where she lived near Kolkata has been rejected, according to the Press Trust of India.

The Centre on Monday asked the West Bengal government to send a report on the incident of the gangrape of an elderly nun at a convent in Nadia district and the action taken so far.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday evening travelled to Ranaghat and met an elderly nun who was gang-raped at her convent school over the weekend.

Two days after a 72-year-old nun with a convent in West Bengal's Ranaghat was allegedly gang-raped, the police have picked up two more persons today taking the total number of those detained up to ten. The police, on Saturday, announced a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for any concrete information leading to the culprits.
