External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today congratulated Bangladesh on the launch of its first communications satellite, the Bangabandhu-1.

SpaceX on Friday blasted off its newest and most powerful Falcon 9 rocket, known as the Block 5, carrying the first high-orbit communications satellite for Bangladesh and marking a leap forward in re-usability for the California-based aerospace company.

Bangladesh is all set to join the space club when its first communications satellite is launched into space using the Falcon-9 rocket on Thursday from the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA.

The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) at ISRO, Sriharikota, in Andhra Pradesh successfully launched the 450-crore GSAT-9 or the South Asia Communication Satellite - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's gift to six SAARC nations - India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
