Ban On Recorded Music

Days after the excise department issued a diktat allowing only "live singing and playing of instruments"at restro-bars in the city, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today directed the excise commissioner to issue a "clarification" saying there is no ban on recorded music at such establishments.

The Delhi Excise Department has "not banned" playing of recorded music in restobars in the city, Excise Commissioner Amjad Tak said on Monday, following flak for a circular to restobars to have only "live singing/playing of instruments by professionals".

Amid the Delhi government's diktat banning playing of recorded music in resto-bars, a national body of restaurants today said such violations should be dealt on a "case-to-case" basis and termed the blanket ban "erroneous" in nature.
