Ban On Hookah Bars

The Haryana Assembly on Monday passed a bill that prohibits opening or running hookah bars or serving hookah to customers in any place, including eating houses, in the state.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has imposed a total ban on serving hookah in hotels, restaurants, bars and commercial establishments in Haryana. Teams will be formed to stop the serving of Hookah in bars, pubs and restaurants.

In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, Chandigarh on Monday imposed a ban on the operation of hookah bars in the Union Territory from December 14 to February 11.

The Maharashtra government on Monday told the Bombay High Court that its decision to ban hookah parlours in the state was taken in public interest.

The Punjab government today decided to impose a permanent ban on hookah bars in the state instead of issuing temporary orders against them every two months.

The district magistrate (DM) of Gurgaon on Friday again invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for banning hookah bars in the district, an official said.

While conducting a surprise check at Zaza restaurant, Bandra Reclamation, at 11 pm on Monday, Social Service (SS) branch of Mumbai police found a hookah bar operating out of the establishment. Among the patrons rounded up was allegedly state health minister Suresh Shetty's son Kshitij.

The Gurgaon administration on Tuesday banned hookah bars in the entire district, a Haryana government spokesman said. "District Magistrate P.C. Meena has today (Tuesday) banned hookah bars in the district. He has invoked Section 144 of Cr PC 1973 for this purpose," he said
