2000 Rupee Note Withdrawn

The Reserve Bank of India said today that 50 per cent of the Rs 2,000 notes in circulation have come back, around 20 days after their withdrawal was announced.

2,000 Notes Withdrawn: The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a plea challenging notifications enabling exchange of Rs 2,000 currency notes without any requisition slip and ID proof.

Former Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian on Saturday said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s withdrawal of the circulation of Rs 2,000 note "will not affect the common man of the society".

While there is no clarity on the fate of the withdrawn Indian currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations in Nepal, new Indian Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 bank notes are deemed illegal and banned for exchange, Nepal's central bank said on Thursday.
