Usain Bolt to miss Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: Double Olympic and world sprint champion Usain Bolt will not compete at the Commonwealth Games from October 3-14 here.

Bolt, the world's fastest man, who missed the 2006 Games through injury, will be absent from the quadrennial event to instead continue focussing on the London 2012 Olympics.

"Bolt made it known long ago that he is not going to the Commonwealth Games," Bolt's coach Glen Mills told www.trackalerts.com.

Bolt is currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury which forced him to miss the recent Diamond League event in New York. He was advised to take a 2-3 week break as a precautionary measure to avoid risking further damage.

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi had first suggested last year that Bolt will be coming to India to participate in the Games.

However, his claim was rejected by Bolt's agent Ricky Simms who in January this year had said that the 23-year-old would probably miss Delhi to focus on London 2012 as well as the World Championships in 2011 and 2013.

The Jamaican star won the 100m and 200m gold medals in world record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and repeated the feat at the 2009 world championships in Berlin.
