Director Steven Spielberg acquired the movie rights after Herge's death in 1983. The film is shot in performance capture 3D format.
Spielberg wanted to start the filming in 2008, but unforeseen delays pushed it to 2011.
The script of the film is based on three stories: Red Rackham's Treasure, The Secret of the Unicorn and The Crab with the Golden Claws.
The movie is being produced by Peter Jackson and written by Joe Cornish, Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat.
British actor Thomas Sangster was originally cast as Tintin but left the project because of the delay. Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell replaced him as the intrepid reporter
Daniel Craig takes a break from 007 duty to voice the villainous pirate, Red Rackham. Andy Serkis, who last encountered performance capture technology as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, will play Captain Haddock. British comedic actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are cast as the bumbling detectives, Thomson and Thompson.
The film is in the post-production stage and is slated to release in India on November 11, 2011.
