Salman Khan's Appeal Accepted: Actor's Jail Term Suspended

Salman Khan's sister Alvira, along with Baba Siddiqui and the actor's legal team, reached the Bombay High Court on May 8, where the actor was granted bail after his conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case. In its verdict on May 6, a Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced Salman to five years in jail. The actor was granted interim bail till today. The Bombay High Court has suspended his jail term, pending appeal.

Actor Salman Khan reached his residence on the evening of May 6 after being sentenced to five years in jail by a Mumbai Sessions Court for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The court convicted the 49-year-old actor for drunkenly driving over five pavement dwellers in 2002, killing one. He has been granted two days interim bail till May 8 by the Bombay High Court.

Salman Khan was swamped by media crews as he left the Sessions Court in his car.

Salman was accompanied by his sister Arpita.

Actor Sunil Shetty was photographed outside the Khan residence in Mumbai's Galaxy Apartments after the verdict.

Visitors also included actress Preity Zinta.

Earlier in the day, Salman was driven to court in a white Mercedes by Ashok Singh, his driver who claimed he was at the wheel when the hit-and-run took place in 2002. The court dismissed his claim as 'improbable'.

The actor's brother Sohail Khan left the court after Salman's mother Salma Khan was taken ill at home.

Salman's actor-filmmaker brother Arbaaz Khan was spotted leaving the court after the verdict.

On the morning of May 6, Salman left his Mumbai residence, Galaxy Apartments, with heavy media presence outside the Khan residence.

The actor was dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans.

Salman hugged his mother Salma moments before he left for the court.

His sister Arpita was spotted waiting in the car outside Galaxy Apartments.

Salman also hugged his father, writer Salim Khan.

Meanwhile, Salman's brother Sohail Khan was spotted outside the court, waiting for Salman. He was accompanied by politician Baba Siddique.

Preityzinta: Actress Preity Zinta, who has co-starred with Salman in films like Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, was among the first of the actor's friends to visit his home after the verdict was announced.
