Sampoorna Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar, turns 75 today. Here's a look at the glorious lyricist and filmmaker's famous works.

Sampoorna Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar, turns 75 today.

He is a prominent Bollywood lyricist, director and poet. In his musical career of more than four decades, the writer has been awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song (for Jai Ho) and the Padma Bhushan, along with several Filmare and National Film Awards.

One of the defining songs of the new generation, Dhan Ta Nan, from frequent Gulzar collaborator Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey, set the airwaves on fire with its peppy beat, new-age groove and the perfect fusion of Indian melodies with Western vocals.

Gulzar's Jai Ho from Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Song, became so popular that it was eventually adopted and remixed by American pop band Pussycat Dolls.
