State govt approves additional 123 teaching posts in Patna medical college

Patna: Bihar government today approved creation of an additional 123 teaching posts in the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) that will pave the way for increase in the number of seats for post-graduate students from 100 to 150, an official said.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant told reporters.

As per the Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines, a medical college can increase the number of seats of post-graduate students only after fulfilling the stipulated number of teaching posts, he said.

Thus, by creating an additional 123 teaching posts in the PMCH the state government has cleared the decks for increasing the number of seats for the post-graduate students from 100 to 150, Ravikant said.

The state government has approved 700 posts of teaching and non-teaching posts in the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), the Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) said, adding that it will put a burden of Rs. 26.06 crores on the state exchaquer.

In another significant decision, the state government sanctioned creation of 3486 posts for computerisation and updation of land records over the next three years under the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011, he said.

Ravikant said that the updation and computerization of the land records has to be done in the next three years at all cost and for that the aerial suvery has been completed.

He said that the state government also decided that an MLC/MLC can recommend development works for upto Rs. one crore every year under the Chief Minister regional development scheme and the said recommendation can be made on the basis of constituency of a lawmaker.
