PM Modi led the Director Generals of Police in a session of yoga which was followed by state-specific presentations.
Rann of Kutch (Gujarat):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reviewed the country's security situation, especially on terrorism and women's safety, with top police officers and took briefing from them during the annual conference of DGPs and IGs being held at the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.
"It has been a fruitful day at DGPs conference in Kutch. The presentations and sessions were on security related matters, terrorism, cyber security, women's safety, disaster management," PM Modi said in a tweet. Earlier in the day, he had sat through the presentations revolving around security concerns.
The day had begun early for the conference participants. It was a cold morning in Rann of Kutch but Prime Minister Narendra Modi had all officers attending the conference performing Yoga before the sun was out. At 7 am, Mr Modi walked up on the white sand with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his junior minister Kiren Rijiju, to see the sun rise.
A couple of hours later, The Telangana police chief made a presentation on "radicalisation of youth" a subject that had figured in the conference earlier. Telanagana and Kerala are the worst affected states where cases relating to people joining ISIS are coming to light, sources said. The conference decided that a soft approach is necessary in handling such cases, they added.
Sources also told NDTV that the conference also discussed how to tackle propaganda as part of the discussion on cyber security, initiated by the Delhi Police Commissioner and a top official of the Intelligence Bureau.
Citing the Bhuj Earthquake, the Gujarat Police gave a detailed presentation on disaster management. The conference also focussed on women's security and the tourist police. Participants felt the police need to follow a more humane approach so that tourists can freely approach them in the time of need, sources said. PM Modi "keenly participated" in the discussions that lasted 12 hours, officials said. They added that he directed the agenda of the meet by asking questions and initiating many discussions.
