- The audio reveals harassment of a Lucknow University student by an assistant professor
- Assistant professor Paramjit Singh pressured the student to meet him before exams
- The student denied needing leaked examination papers during the calls
"Darling, I have retrieved two papers for you. When will you come meet me?"
"Sir, I have studied and completed the syllabus."
"So you will not come meet me even once?"
"I have to take care of things at home. I'll try coming."
"Don't try, come before the exams, within seven days."
The recording of calls to a woman student at the Lucknow University brought to the fore her continued harassment by an assistant professor in the name of leaked examination papers. Among two angles pertaining to the case is the objectionable and derogatory phone conversation wherein undue favours were sought from a woman student. The other angle is that of an alleged paper leak, an issue that has gained national significance as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over probe into the NEET UG 2026 paper leak.
In the audio recording submitted by the B.Sc student in the department of zoology, assistant professor Paramjit Singh can be heard coercing the woman to visit him before the exams, to which she responds by denying the need for the leaked papers. At the end of the recording, when the call has ended, the woman claims she is being summoned by Singh so she can be molested again.
The woman submitted both audio clips to the university administration, following which the Controller of Examinations at Lucknow University lodged a complaint. The university has also constituted a committee to investigate the entire incident.
The police have taken the professor into custody. He denied all allegations and claimed that he is being falsely implicated due to the university's "internal politics".
Activists from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on the university campus, demanding strict action against the professor. ABVP Lucknow University unit president Jai Srivastava said the university administration, the local police and the Uttar Pradesh government should invoke stringent provisions related to examination integrity and sexual harassment and arrest the accused professor.
The university administration has clarified that any activity that tarnishes the institution's image will be treated with the utmost gravity. Vice Chancellor JP Saini has directed the Internal Complaints Committee to submit its inquiry report within 24 hours.
Earlier, a university official had said the statements of the accused professor, the female student and some other students were recorded in the proctor's office on Friday and the inquiry was being taken forward, after which a decision would be taken.
