CoronavirusTracker: More than 45,000 Covid-linked deaths have been reported so far.

A huge spike of 53,601 fresh coronavirus infections since yesterday took India's tally to 22,68,675, the government said this morning. About 15 lakh patients have recovered so far; more than 45,000 have died. 

The third worst-hit country by the pandemic, India has been logging more cases in 24 hours that the United States and Brazil, which have more patients than the country, according to the data by the World Health Organization. 

The country's mortality rate has slipped below 2 per cent for the first time. It was 2.70 per cent last month and 2.83 per cent on June 11. More than 45,000 COVID-19 linked deaths have been registered so far; 871 people died in the last 24 hours.

Good to see the R trending downwards. If R goes below 1 and stays there that'll be fine. Worrying that the number of new cases is climbing -now at more than twice than four weeks ago. Even the percent rise in new cases is still too high. More and better planning is needed. Long way to go still.
