India's Coronavirus Cases Cross 81 Lakh, 48,268 New Cases In A Day

India COVID-19 Cases: A total of 10,87,96,064 samples had been tested for COVID-19 till October 30.

New Delhi: India reported a daily jump of 48,268 coronavirus infections in 24 hours, taking its tally past the 81-lakh mark, the Health Ministry data this morning showed.The number of cases in the country now stand at 81,37,119. In the 24-hour period, India, which is the second worst-hit country, reported 551 deaths linked to the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,21,641. The national recovery rate crossed 91 per cent, the fatality rate remains at 1.49 per cent.

  1. More than 59,454 successfully fought off the viral disease taking the overall recoveries to 74 lakh, the data showed. Around 5.82 lakh people are currently receiving treatment for COVID-19, symptoms of which may become more severe as the winter sets in.

  2. It is for the first time after 85 days that the active caseload has gone below six lakh, the government said. The active caseload is just 7.35 per cent of the total positive cases, it said.

  3. A total of 10,87,96,064 samples had been tested for COVID-19 till October 30, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Of these, 10,67,976 samples were tested on Friday.

  4. India has seen a dip in new infections since September, but experts have warned of a possible spike during the festival season, which runs until mid-November.

  5. Kerala -- which has been witnessing a surge in infections -- added 6,638 new cases, the most by any state in the last 24 hours. Kerala has over 90,565 active cases and the number of deaths linked to the virus stand at 1,457.

  6. The southern state is followed by Maharashtra, which reported 6,190 new cases and 127 deaths during the period. The total cases of Coronavirus in the state have risen to 16,72,858 with 1,25,418 active cases while 8,241 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours have taken the tally of discharged cases to 15,03,050, as per the State Public Health Department on Friday.

  7. For the third consecutive day, Delhi recorded over 5,000 new coronavirus cases with a new 24-hour high of 5,891 on Friday. Delhi had recorded its second-highest cases on Thursday at 5,739. Total cases are now at over 3.81 lakh.

  8. India's Covid tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11 and crossed 80 lakh on October 29.

  9. India is the world's second worst affected country after the United States, which has over 90 lakh infections. On Friday the country set a record for new daily infections of more than 94,000 in 24 hours, breaking the record of 91,000 it had set just one day earlier.

  10. The global COVID-19 caseload is nearing the 4.5 crore mark while the fatalities stand at 11.8 lakh, as per the latest updates by Johns Hopkins University which has been tracking the pandemic progression.
