Budget Session 2026-27 Live Updates: President Droupadi Murmu is addressing a joint session of both Houses on the first day of the Budget Session of the Parliament.

The Parliament session will be held in two phases, the first part of which will commence on Wednesday and end on February 13. The second part, which will see a debate on the Budget will commence on March 9 and continue till April 2, according to an X post by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

During the first phase, the Economic Survey will be laid before Parliament on January 29 while the Budget will be tabled by Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, which falls on a Sunday.

The session will consist of 30 sittings and will likely see discussions on taxation, public expenditure and policy. It comes at a time the government focusses on matters like economic growth, fiscal consolidation and challenges pertaining to infrastructure and jobs.

President Droupadi Murmu Says 'Committed To Social Justice'

The Union government is committed to social justice in the country, President Droupadi Murmu said addressing a joint sitting of Parliament. As the President started her address, there was an uproar from the Opposition benches.

Murmu said social security benefits are now available to nearly 95 crore citizens of the country. "My government is committed to true social justice," she said, adding that 25 crore Indians moved out of poverty in the last 10 years.

In the third term of the government, she said, work is being done to further empower the poor.

The President also said the government has been successful in tackling corruption and scams, ensuring proper use of public funds.

President Droupadi Murmu said astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's visit to the International Space Station was the beginning of a historic journey.

In her address to joint sitting of both houses of Parliament, Murmu said space tourism was now within reach of Indians. "Shubhanshu Shukla reaching the International Space Stationn (ISS) is the beginning of a historic journey. In the coming years, India is moving towards building its own space station," Murmu said.

"The nation is working enthusiastically on the Gaganyaan mission," the president said, amid thumping of desks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders present in the Lok Sabha chamber.
