Aarushi Case: Convinced Of Talwars' Innocence, Harish Salve Tells NDTV

Former Solicitor General and top lawyer Harish Salve, who represented the Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in the Supreme Court, told NDTV he was convinced of their innocence.

Rajesh and Nupur Talwar have been acquitted in the murder case of their daughter Aarushi

New Delhi: Dentist couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar were acquitted on Thursday in the murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008 by the Allahabad High Court, which stressed it was giving them the benefit of the doubt. The country's former Solicitor General and top lawyer Harish Salve, who represented the Talwars in the Supreme Court, told NDTV he was convinced of their innocence. "I was convinced that the case was wrongly brought against the Talwars," he said.

However, the man who headed the CBI for a key part of the investigation into the double murder, AP Singh told NDTV on Thursday "The court has not said they are innocent, it has said it is giving them the benefit of the doubt", adding, "There were loopholes in our investigation, that's why we had closed the case saying it was inconclusive."

Slamming the former CBI chief, Mr Salve said "AP Singh has gone on record and said he was convinced the Talwars were wrong, he should have been more circumspect in his comments."

When asked if there should be a re-investigation, Mr Salve said, "Talwars wanted DNA test of blood marked bottle and CBI has always opposed it. They said we want to know who killed our daughter. They said we want to know who killed our daughter and obviously the person who killed the daughter must have consumed alcohol and his blood stains will be there. These are the kind of things that has happened in the case and no one is talking about it."

He also said if the CBI appeals against the Supreme Court verdict he will be happy to represent the Talwars in the top court if they want him.

Aarushi Talwar was found with her throat slit in her bed, just days before she turned 14. Their live-in help Hemraj was discovered dead the next day on the terrace of the apartment building in Noida.
