About Bardhaman Purba

Bardhaman Purba will be held in the seventh phase of the general election on April 29. The Bardhaman Purba constituency consists of Raina, Jamalpur, Kalna, Memari, Purbasthali Dakshin, Purbasthali Uttar and Katwa. The seats in Raina, Jamalpur and Kalna are reserved for scheduled caste. 

This time, the sitting MP, Sunil Kumar Mondol will contest from the Bardhaman Purba Lok Sabha constituency seat with a Trinamool Congress (TMC) party ticket. 

In the 2014 general election, TMC's Sunil Kumar Mondol won the seat by 1,14,479. While Sunil Mondol had received 5,74,660 votes, his nearest rival CPM's Ishwar Chandra Das got 4,60,181 votes. While the winning party, TMC, got 43.50% of the total votes, the runner-up CPI (M) received 34.83% of the total votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had received 1,70,828 votes. A total of 13,20,922 voters had exercised their franchise in the last general election, out of which 7,36,699 were female voters. 

The constituency has a Hindi population of more than 84%. 

As per the 2014 general election data, the number of electors was 15,32,244 out of which close to 50% are female voters.
