In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ajay Tamta was elected from Almora in Uttarakhand on a BJP ticket. He received 3,48,186 votes. His closest opponent was Pradeep Tamta from the Congress who received 2,52,496 votes. Almora Lok Sabha seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates after 2008.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Bachi Singh Rawat from BJP was elected to parliament from Almora. He had been elected from the seat in every election since 1996.
In the 2009 General Elections, Pradeep Tamta of Indian National Congress managed to win the seat. Pradeep Tamta is the only Congress candidate to win from Almora since 1991.
There are 14 assembly segments under the Almora Parliamentary constituency - Dharchula, Didihat, Gangolihat, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Lohaghat, Bageshwar, Kapkot, Almora, Dwarahat, Jageshwar, Ranikhet, Salt, and Someshwar.
Almora voted in the first phase for the 2019 general elections on April 11. For the upcoming elections, the BJP has fielded incumbent MP Ajay Tamta while the Congress has fielded Pradeep Tamta.
