In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rajnath Singh was elected from Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He received 5,61,106 votes. His closest opponent was Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the Congress who received 2,88,357 votes. Rajnath Singh won the constituency by a margin of 2,72,749 votes.
In 2009 general elections, the Lucknow seat was won by Lalji Tandon of the BJP. In 2004 general elections, the Lucknow parliamentary seat was won by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of the BJP and his runner up was Madhu Gupta of the SP.
The Lucknow parliamentary constituency consists of five Vidhan Sabha seats: Lucknow West, Lucknow North, Lucknow East, Lucknow Central and Lucknow Cantt.
Voting for the Lucknow seat was concluded in the fifth phase of elections on May 6.
In the 2019 general elections, the BJP fielded Rajnath Singh. The Congress candidate is Acharya Pramod Krishnam and the Mahagathbandhan has fielded Poonam Shatrughan Sinha on an SP ticket.
