Vote Summary

The Delhi election results will be declared on February 11, three days after Delhi Assembly elections. Voting for 70 Delhi Assembly seats took place in a single phase. The Delhi election was the first in the national capital since the BJP swept to a massive win Lok Sabha election last year, winning all seven parliamentary seats.

The Delhi election 2020 pitted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, against Prime Minister Narenda Modi’s BJP and the Congress. Arvind Kejriwal and AAP are seeking a hat-trick of wins in Delhi election.

Ahead of election results the AAP has claimed efforts are being made to tamper with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh tweeted videos to claim EVMs were being taken away illegally with just hours before Delhi election results date.

Assembly election results have also come under the scanner following a delay over 24 hours in the Election Commission releasing voter turnout data. Immediately after voting concluded and ahead of Election results 2020, the poll body shared a provisional voter turnout figure of 57.06 per cent. The Election Commission said this figure would be updated but it was only done more than 24 hours later, prompting allegations of voter fraud by Chief Minister Kejriwal.

In 2015 Delhi poll results the AAP got 54.3 per cent of the vote share and won 67 seats. 2015 Delhi results saw the BJP got 32 per cent of the votes and the remaining three seats. The Congress, which was in power between 1998 and 2013, got just 9.6 per cent of the vote share and won zero seats.

Ahead of Election 2020 the AAP and the BJP waged a bitterly-fought war, with BJP MPs and leaders indulging in hate speech and accusing Arvind Kejriwal of being a “terrorist”. The BJP also sought to use Shaheen Bagh, where hundreds of women have participated in a peaceful protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, or CAA, for over a month.
